Year 6 – Highlights

Autumn term 1

Over the last half term, we enjoyed getting to know one another and our routines in our new Year 6 classes. We particularly enjoyed a fun-filled day at Eaton Vale, trying our collaborative skills to build a raft, which sometimes fell apart, but was great fun! We ventured high on the vertical challenge, learning to belay and support one another too, as well as solve the cave bus and aim for targets in tomahawk throwing.

We enjoyed our WOW day for Tomorrow’s World topic, where we used our skills to become spies and solve who stole the biscuits, navigating our way through lasers. As well as this, we developed our understanding of the history of technology and computers, and the significant individuals who contributed to this, to get to where we are today.

In English, we enjoyed our Alex Rider Stormbreaker book by Anthony Horowitz, which complemented our spy theme well, writing letters, a suspense-filled story, diary entry and learnt some new grammar features to support this. We even invented our own spy gadget to promote!

In maths, we revisited our skills from Year 5 and consolidated our understanding of place value and calculation.
