Neurodiversity

If you feel your child may be displaying signs of a neurodiverse profile, please speak to their class teacher in the first instance. Children can present as neurodiverse without this appearing as barrier to learning within school. We will always evaluate whether the presenting behaviours as presenting as barriers within the school environment.

Only a Paediatrician can make a diagnosis. There are two routes for families wishing to seek a diagnosis for their child.

NHS diagnosis

The school SENDCO can now refer to NHS Neurodevelopmental Services Norfolk. Prior to this referral assessments and observations will need to be completed within school. There is currently a significant wait for an NHS diagnosis. NDS will seek the views of the child, parents and school to ensure a holistic view of the child.

Private diagnosis

Several families are choosing to pursue a private diagnosis. It is important to check that the assessments meet the NICE guidelines.

The Local Authority have produced some advice to consider when choosing a private diagnosis which can be found below.

SEN support is based on the presenting barriers to learning. Regardless of a diagnosis, the appropriate support will be implemented where relevant, in communication with families.
